After the birth of your child, your home may fill up with visitors, ranging from relatives, colleagues, friends and even acquaintances all coming to congratulate you and check on the baby. They will come with loads of gifts for you and baby. However, you will not have the energy and time to entertain guests since you need time to bond with your child and you will also be in the midst of your recovery.
You cannot do away with all the visitors; they will still come even without notifying you. However, your confinement nanny can help you with the hosting as you take some time to rest. Before long, all the visitors will leave, your spouse will probably resume work after his paternity leave and you will be on your own; with your baby, to nurse, cuddle, worry about and burn the midnight oil together.
Many mothers, especially first-time mothers find themselves in this helpless situation, and they have no one to look after them. If the situation is not controlled, the mother may sink into depression. However, you can avoid such a situation by offering your help to the new mother in the following ways:
Hire a confinement nanny
You can pay for a confinement nanny as your gift for her new role and achievement. You just need to check around confinement centres in Singapore and agree with the agency or the nanny on the number of months she is going to assist her. The mother will be relieved to know that after everybody else resumes their daily schedules, she will have someone taking care of her and helping her with the house chores.
Offer to run errands
The new mum may not have much strength and time to run errands. She may need to stock up her fridge, do some shopping for the kitchen or even her personal needs. You can do her a favour by offering to run the errands while she enjoys some rest. You can also offer to pick her children from school or take them out for an afternoon in some of the beautiful parks around Singapore.
Offer to prepare meals
Once you drop by to see the baby, do not just sit and watch the television or exclaim how adorable the baby looks. Offer to prepare her favourite meal and keep her company as she enjoys the meal. You can also wash the dishes after the meal and ensure the house is neat.
Pay for a massage
The new mother must have gone through trauma and exhaustion during her pregnancy and at childbirth. She is suffering from exhaustion for having to cope with the extra weight that came with pregnancy. You can be kind enough to rub her legs and back. However, if you are not a professional, you can hire a masseuse for her and arrange for the massage to take place in the comfort of her home. The masseuse can massage both the mother and baby. The two will enjoy a sound sleep after that.
Watch the baby
Set some time aside and offer to nurse the baby while the mother rests. The little one may cry from time to time. Do not rush and give the infant back to the mother. Just do your best to calm the baby and ensure the mother enjoys her rest.
While at it, remember to give her some space. She may not ask you to leave, but you should read the signs that she needs to be alone. Offer your help without overcrowding her space. There will be times she will not be interested in listening to your stories, just understand and respect that, while in some instances she will need you to listen to her and give the assurance that she is doing a great job. Give her the support she needs and help her cope with the new roles as a mother.
