When a woman gives birth to a child, along comes the confinement taboos that she needs to follow righteously. The people residing in the western part of the world do not follow these restrictions, and may not be familiar with them, but for the Eastern world, it is a must! If you think that a woman needs to have maternity leave just to recover from her health and bond with the baby, think again! There are a lot of procedures that she needs to undergo. These procedures will make her more resilient and patient in the future. But, for a new mother, these things are something she is not familiar with. No Bathing

No Cold Items

Many Eastern mothers are given a diet full of protein to offer them energy. Fruits and vegetables with cooling effects are usually avoided. Cold drinks are cold fridge items are a big NO! For many, confinement period is to eat right and have enough nutritious during your daily intakes to nourish and replenish your body for a smoother recovery, so eating is important.

Many Malay practices use womb massage to keep the womb in its right position and to give way to the air out of the body. It is believed that by having postnatal massage can aid most issues faced by postpartum mothers, such as reduces backaches and swellings, improves prolapse uterus or even toning your body back into shape.

These are some of the most famous practices carried about in the East. According to the Chinese, these taboos have to be avoided by a woman if she wants to live a long and a healthy life in the future.

Confinement of the Western World

Although westerners rarely practice any special restrictions during their confinement, it is encouraged to avoid doing some of these things:

Make sure you;

  • Do not eat and drink a lot of cold items
  • Avoid bathing after a sunset
  • Cover yourself properly and stay away from direct air conditioner
  • Wear socks all the time when out of bed
  • Never wash your feet after sunset
  • Try to avoid a lot of spicy food
  • Eat a lot of ginger
  • Say NO to tea, and coffee

These confinement practices may be new to you, but there is no harm in following them if you are about to give birth soon. At the end of the day, it is your health we are concerned about!
