Different Types of Professional Help For A New Mom

Once you are announced pregnant, you might start planning about what to engage and prepare for you and your baby. In the meantime, you might notice there are a few types of professional roles that you can approach. Not only to help you go through the ten months of your pregnancy period, some of them are also on standby for your post-delivery phase.

Have no idea whether to engage one, few or all of them? Read their roles below and see which one sounds to make your life easier so you can add them in on your pregnancy checklist. Depending on your personal ways of living, some might only need physical help as they might already have a lot of psychological support, some might prefer to get extra care on eating, while some might feel relieved to get all done in once.

Domestic Helper

— Domestic Chores

Performing household chores is always a fatiguing task. It is worse for a mom-to-be who undergoes prenatal symptoms such as nausea and cramping or a mom who has just delivered the baby. Not only to reduce the exhaustion, but nanny can also help in mopping and laundry as mommies try to avoid touching water in the confinement period where baby’s cloth is better to be hand washed.

Although the baby has already been delivered, mommies are still at risk of health complications. Hiring someone to do the domestic chores that require body movement can prevent unexpected crashes that would perhaps hurt mom-to-be carrying the belly bump and mommy who just gave birth.

Since the pregnant woman and newborn are quite sensitive to the surroundings, having a helper to take care of hygiene is crucial to make sure the whole family, especially the mommy and baby, is living in a comfortable environment.

Nutritionist

— Nutrition and Recovery

A professional nutritionist can guide you through the pre and postnatal period. For example, a pregnant woman may need extra healthy fat to build the tissue and skin of her fetus. And you might not come across this knowledge or not sure if it is valid when you are just ‘google’-ing everything.

Not only will it speed up mom’s postnatal recovery period, but maintaining a healthy diet is also crucial to improve the quality of the breast milk. The baby would only receive the best if mummy has taken nutritious eating into consideration. As eating is always a big deal during confinement period, it is better to look for a professional assistant.

All in all, a qualified nutritionist would ensure a balanced-diet that can sate mummies’ hunger and at the same time suggest breastfeeding-friendly ingredients.

Counsellor

— Good listener

A pregnant woman may undergo the trimesters with different psychological changes such as become depressed easily, self-conscious on own-looks and worrying about baby’s safety. After giving birth, mummies might be physically and emotionally exhausted which we sometimes call postpartum depression. At the time their bodies are still weak, they start to worry about what if their baby gets hurt or checking repetitively if the baby has any abnormal symptoms. An experienced counsellor is definitely a good listener for a mom as counsellor understands the tough time mom is going through. Since mom who just gave birth cannot really do activities and go outside, counsellor provides mental support by being her friend or companion to reduce the likelihood of depression when mom feels trusted and relieved.

Confinement Nanny

— Baby Care and Breastfeeding Guidance

A newborn baby would require extra care and we cannot deny that the baby is always on top of the mom’s priority. However, mommies are usually weak after giving birth and they need to rest to get themselves recuperated as well. So, a confinement nanny plays an essential role in taking good care of the baby, and the mother too!

Other than helping in feeding, bathing and burping the baby, a confinement nanny would also perform night feeding so mommies can get to enjoy a better sleeping quality – which everyone wishes for.

Often, a first-time mom who lacks experience in handling a baby is more in need of a nanny. This is because experienced nanny would know why the baby is crying for which reduces the time to calm the baby down, and most important of all, make sure the baby is always warm and full.

Breastfeeding is one of the main issues that almost every mom would face after giving birth.  Moms usually have a tough time when the baby is not latching properly, they do not have enough milk supply, or they are experiencing breast engorgement. Guess what? All those breastfeeding-related discomforts could be alleviated by just hiring a trained nanny!

A nanny would provide tips in reducing the discomforts when breastfeeding, provide guidance on breast care to better protect the nipples, as well as helping to adjust the feeding position to ensure the baby is latching properly as the first-time mom got a zero experience in it. A trained nanny is always ready to provide counselling and support for moms to go through their uncomfortable breastfeeding period.

You might be at a loss as to whether to hire a domestic helper, to consult a nutritionist, to seek a counsellor, or go for a confinement nanny. For a first-time mom, hiring a trained confinement nanny can usually cover up the other roles mentioned above while you would get to enjoy more quality time with the newborn!

A gentle reminder – if you are planning to find sg nanny, there are different agencies to go for, but remember to make sure the nannies are well trained and certified so you and your baby get treated well!
