How a Confinement Nanny Makes Lives Better

A postnatal period doesn’t really look like postnatal period. If one has relied on the media their whole life to get an idea of how the period after giving birth goes, they’re getting the wrong idea, no doubt. That is without taking into account how some movies cut off the whole ‘just-given-birth’ phase completely. Suddenly it’s “2 years later” and the scene shows the camera slowly hovering above a table where the family pictures are placed at. Of course, there is now an addition of a healthy, smiley baby to depict the beginning of that new phase of life.

How wonderful would it be if you could fast-forward through life like that and skip all the overbearing phases, wouldn’t it? But that’s not real life and it’s not realistic. The truth is, many things change during that period. Your physicals change, your lifestyle changes, and your priorities change. For certain changes, they remain changed permanently. Televisions simply don’t show that enough.

The period after you deliver is the most critical period of your life. People seldom admit they want help, but more often than not, they do need it. Having a supportive companion who will be by your side and assisting in your recovery and your infant’s growth can do more than you think. Going back to the title of this article, yes, lives, because believe us when we say you won’t be the only person in the house to benefit from having a confinement nanny around.

What does a confinement nanny do?

Going down to the base of it, a confinement nanny essentially takes care of the new mother and her infant. Still, there are more to their jobs than meets the eye. Find out how they will help you, your baby, and others in the house!

For the mother:

The confinement nanny will prepare daily confinement meals with suitable ingredients that are meant to help a healing postnatal mother. If there’s only one aspect you can afford to modify or improve to ensure a smooth recovery, experts would advise you to prioritise your diet. That’s how important it is. When your baby needs to be bathed and changed, you can leave those to your confinement nanny as well. This will give you a lot more time to rest and heal! Some confinement nannies are trained and skilled to perform postnatal massage as well. If you are getting that extra treatment, you can feel even more relaxed and have better sleep at night.

Many mothers face difficulties with breastfeeding. If this is one of your biggest concerns, you can look for agencies that are pro-breastfeeding or lactation-friendly. Their nannies have been trained to guide you in breastfeeding and treating any related discomforts. Practising the right breastfeeding method can prevent engorgement and reduce pains that may occur from improper techniques.

Last but definitely not least, having a confinement lady around can help you look after your mental health. You are healing better and you will find that keeping your emotions intact is much easier with a helping hand. Having spoken to a lot of mothers, we notice that they get so comfortable having a nanny around to the point it is hard to think about what comes after she leaves. This is understandable, but should not be the case. You can still benefit from her even years after she’s left your place. Extract as much information and knowledge as you could when she is with you so you can memorise and practise them for a long time, even with your next child(ren)!

For the baby:

Your confinement lady is pretty much the next closest person to your little one after you. She will be in the house and around your baby for as much time as you will be, so she would notice any changes to your baby’s behaviour. If she is from an agency, she most probably will keep a log to record your baby’s growth, which she can personally report to you later on as well.

No matter how tiny your little angel is, you’d be surprised at how big the laundry they crate. The confinement lady will also hand wash your baby’s laundry. Their clothes need to be washed with mild laundry detergent that is free of fragrances or other additives that can cause irritation.

On days when you don’t feel like putting your baby to bed, your nanny can do it in your place as well. Sleep plays an important role in ensuring your baby’s smooth growth, so a confinement lady will make sure your baby gets enough of it.

For your partner and family:

The idea of a confinement lady lessening your burden after the delivery does not only revolve around physical activities. For many mothers who engage a confinement lady service, they notice an improvement in their mental health as well. Sometimes, mental exhaustion can be partially caused by physical exhaustion. As you tend to feel lonely and worn out, you start feeling like no one can truly understand what you feel. You may end up taking it out on your partner and this can negatively affect your marital relationship.

With a confinement nanny, a huge amount of load is taken off your shoulder. You can stay focused on your recovery, knowing your baby is in good, loving hands. As a result, your emotions will become more stable compared to feeling like you are handling everything alone. This can improve the communication between you and your partner and encourage you to open up about how you feel.

If there are very few people living with you, some confinement ladies are willing to prepare daily meals and do the laundry for your partner as well! Plus, your confinement lady will be the one to wake up at night for nighttime feeding. Often, couples who are new parents argue about who should wake up at certain time of the night to feed. This fight is very common, but it doesn’t mean it will happen in your place.

For the one doing the grocery shopping:

In case your CN won’t be doing it, she can still contribute a list of items and ingredients to buy for her to cook up confinement food. You can keep the list for future uses or recommend what’s on the list to your peers! This is particularly helpful if you are getting your partner to do the shopping and they have little to no knowledge about the ingredients. They will not have to do a whole research and can just gain knowledge from your experienced nanny.

Soon after you deliver, your rest, sleep, recovery, and recuperation become equally important as your newborn’s growth. Hence, treat them like they are. Nanny services in Singapore can do one more good than they know, so get one for yourself!
