Confinement Practices that Will Heal you as a Whole

When it comes to giving birth, everyone would think of the pain and the after effects – being fat, getting tired easily, being less active than before and much more.

However, afraid not! One of the ways where you can avoid all of that is by going through post-natal confinement practice.

This practice is widely known especially in Asia, including Singapore. Though the westerners do not really have confinement practices, they do follow up some diets and routines to get back to their regular shape.

There are lots of confinement practices for postnatal mummies that can be done and we are sharing a few of such practices that will be able to heal you as a whole!

Go on strict confinement diet

The diet should last for at least 40 days for certain types of foods such as the “cold” foods – cucumber, watermelon, some types of fish and much more.

It is also better for you to eat plain or brown rice with soup which only contains garlic and black pepper as the main ingredients. No chicken or any salty, savoury foods should be taken for the first 44 days.

Deep fried food and those containing oils are a big no no for new mothers as well. Steam and grilled are the best for you as it has little to no oil and would not be greasy – the best for your recovery in and out!

Avoiding ice for the first 100 days is the best because your veins and uterus are not fully cured. The consumption of ice might make your uterus swollen and incapable of healing fully – in other words, it will complicate your recovery process and you will get sore muscles and veins easily. Tea is also one of the things that should be avoided as it will cause muscle sore and bloatedness.

Enough rest and no exercise

Do not do heavy work or exercises for at least a 100 days after your labour. This will help your inner and outer scars to heal faster.

In most cases where new mothers did not have enough rest, they will face more bleeding, uterus prolapse and even depression. That is why help from your spouse and people around you are very important.

Most Singaporeans would have either their mothers take care of them during their confinement periods or engage help from a confinement centre. The confinement nanny would help ease up the confinement period as they are experts and will take care of both the baby and mother.

This would help a lot especially when your spouse is working. Having enough rest and a calm mind are very crucial in helping you go through your recovery process quickly.

Some new parents would become easily stressed out due to the crying baby as they are still adjusting to the new title.

Massage and hot stone

This is a very famous practice among Malays especially. Getting a full body massage as early as 2-3 days into your child birth would help your uterus get back to its original place and to speed up the process of removing your excess blood, especially the clotted ones from the labour, from your body at ease.

Massages would help release the sore pain and get your vein to its original place. It is advised for mothers to take it for 7 days straight and if you can afford it, take the massage package for the whole confinement period as it is proven to heal your wounds and get your body back to its original shape. An hour of relaxing massage will make you feel refreshed again.

Closing words

These practices will help your recovery in a good way and you will find your confinement period more fun and relaxing than stressful.

With a little help from everyone around you, you will be able to heal fully through these post-natal confinement practices; from your spouse to getting some confinement package complete with confinement soup and maybe even getting said spouse to read up on some confinement bath review testimonials to get the most relaxation for you during this time!
